Jeans Hemming with the Original Hem

An original hem keeps the factory-finished, faded edge of your jeans by moving it up instead of cutting it off. With 123Alterations it costs $36 on Long Island and $40 in NYC and $36 in Westchester. Most orders come back in 7–10 days. A tailor prices it at your home and you approve before we take anything.

Jeans hemming & alterations questions

Can jeans be taken in?

Yes, at the waist and through the leg. Your tailor checks the seams at the visit and quotes each change.

Should I wash jeans before hemming?

Yes, if they are new and not pre-shrunk. Washing first avoids a hem that ends up too short.

When is my card charged?

Your card is saved when you book and charged only after your order is back with you, for the amount you approved. We never charge more than the approved quote without asking you first.

Is there sales tax on alterations in New York?

No. New York excludes tailoring and alterations to clothing from sales tax, including reasonable, separately stated alterations to new clothing.
